Since their launch of the series I in the late 1990ies, these amps became very popular among double bassist. They deliver a powerful, very natural and acoustic sound. The unusual downfiring woofer design produces an omnidirectional output of the the lower frequencies to achieve a natural reproduction of a bass instruments’ sound. The high impedance input is suitable for piezo pickups; external preamps are not needed.
The Contra has one channel, the Coda models offers an additional microphone channel with phantom power. For guitarists, all amps are offered with additional reverb effect.

ToneDexter is a preamp for acoustic guitar, mandolin, violin as well as upright bass. It is designed to “restores the missing body sound to an instrument’s ordinary piezo pickup”. In order to use the Tone Textet, you first play with both a mic and your pickup plugged in while ToneDexter learns the difference between your pickup sound and the mic sound. Then, put the mic away and just use the pickup … but with the sound of the mike, which is digitally rebuilt by the preamp.

This preamp was developped and is manufactured as part-time business by bassist Francis Deck. He doesn’t sell to outside the US: “Unfortunately, the world still has borders. The HPF-Pre product does not carry a CE marking. There may be other countries where the lack of regulatory approval is also a problem. While I am confident that the HPF-Pre would be approved if tested, the cost of testing runs into the thousands of dollars. This is simply impossible for a very small business.”

The ze200 amp is designed and hand-made by electrical engineer and double bassist Michael Zadow.
