“Musicians in the US have cause for celebration” writes The Strad. After Congress approved provisions for a uniform national policy on carrying instruments on planes, it’s easier to get onboard with your beloved instrument. Up to now, each airline has been allowed to set their own musical instruments policy, and size limits for both carry-on and checked baggage have varied widely. The bill sets standard weight and size requirements for checked instruments, and allows musicians to buy a seat for oversized instruments (like double basses) that are too fragile to be checked.
The Ischell AirBag is a condenser contact microphone, and gets mounted to the instrument’s top by means of putty. For the needs of different instruments, it’s available in a variety of models. It comes with a small preamp with three preamp voicings: Flat / 180Hz / 360Hz.

My new Double Bass poster is a great resource for every bassist: it’s a fingerboard chart and timeline, and shows the notes on the fingerboard, the notation and positions – in original 1:1 scale. Born in Macerata, Italy, in 1956, Scodanibbio came to prominence in the 1980s, premiering works by, among others, Brian Ferneyhough, Iannis Xenakis, Salvatore Sciarrino, Giacinto Scelsi and Gerard Grisey. He also had working relationships with Luigi Nono and Luciano Berio, whose Sequenza XIVb (originally for cello) he reworked for double bass. In 1997 he and Riley collaborated on A Lazy Afternoon among the Crocodiles, a recording that fused improvisational techniques and experiments with tuning, creating an ad hoc narrative piece with overtones of Indian raga.
